dreams and realities
Someday when I have a spare $2,181, my dream is to have this beautiful Earo Saarinen 41" marble coated dining table in my dining room (yeah, I don't even have my own dining room yet...). It's one of those pieces that would last forever and match almost any decor you would ever have. Lovely. These tables first went into production in 1957... happy 50th to you, pretty table. You can get one from Design Within Reach in lots of different colors and styles. Yay!

Okay so in reality, I will probably never ever drop that much cash on a table. In the meantime, some more realistic "almost there" options for a lot less money are out there. They are still awfully fun.
Trusty Ikea. Only $149!

CB2 has a similar one for $169. Seems to be of better quality than Ikea's version.

fun bookshelf project
A little primer.
So I have a bit of a hard time fitting all of my clothes into one tiny dresser and a closet in my apartment bedroom. Recently, my mom kindly gave me an unfinished wooden bookshelf she's had in her house for awhile. It fits perfectly inside my closet, and it's a wonderful home for my clothes. Folded jeans fit perfectly. Tonight, I primed the shelf (no after pictures of the priming yet), and picked out a great reddish/pinkish/coralish color for the paint. I'm going to get paint that's as glossy as possible. So much fun!
I pulled a color out of a throw pillow on my bed that I got from Urban outfitters awhile ago. This paint swatch was perfect. I'm so excited to see how it looks on the shelf!
the beginning
"And out of the ground the Lord God made to spring up every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food." ~Genesis 2:9
From the beginning of time, God blessed man with the ability to appreciate beautiful things. He is the inventor of beauty and wants us to enjoy things such as architecture, art, photography, interior design, furniture, color, and pattern. I am thankful to God for his kindness in blessing humans with gifts and talents in these areas.
"The Lord will open to you his good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands." ~Deuteronomy 28:12
"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will recieve the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." ~Colossians 3:23
Even in something such as art or design, we can work to the glory of God. That is the fun of interior design: to serve God by serving others by making their environment a more beautiful, practical, efficient, fun place to dwell. (My new favorite word... dwell).
